The Texas Success Initiative is a program whose goal it is to determine whether or not students are ready to take college-level courses. The lynch pin of the program is the TSI assessment that is administered to all PECHS students as a prerequisite for college courses through our partnering community college, South Texas College.
In order to follow the chosen/offered degree plan to earn an Associate's degree, each PECHS student must pass all three sections: Reading, Math and Writing. Because it is a college-level assessment, the sections can be challenging for many of our underclassmen. This is why tutorials are offered 4 days out of the week and on Saturdays, with a minimum of 8 hours of mandatory tutorials in each section before being allowed to test. We have found that the more directed and focused tutorials are offered to these students, the more likely they will be to pass each section.
