Teresa Rodriguez


Teresa Rodriguez teaches English Language Arts at Progreso Early College High School and serves as a dual enrollment instructor for English 1301 and 1302 with the school’s local educational partner, South Texas College.  She started working with the early college program when it first started in 2007 where she has taught all levels of high school English.  She began her teaching career at Progreso in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in English & Spanish from the University of Texas Pan American.  In the spring of 2011, she received a Master of Arts in English from the University of Texas at Brownsville.  She has been working to empower Progreso’s high school students to reach higher levels of verbal, written, and comprehension skills which will benefit them in their post education and/or career. 


Teresa has served as the school’s University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.) coordinator, Literary Criticism, Poetry, Prose, Journalism coach and One Act Play director throughout her teaching career.  Her students have won district titles and reached regional competition in the different areas of competition. 


In 2002, Teresa received, For the Love of Reading Award for promoting reading.  Then, in 2003, Teresa was a recipient of the Fulbright Memorial Fund of Japan.  She traveled to Japan for two weeks to learn about their educational system and came back to promote Japan’s culture and message of peace.  In 2007 when the Early College Program was established, she was one of the first the Early College Coaches.  She provided staff development on strategies for instruction and the Texas Instructional Framework. 


Then in 2008-2009, she was recognized as the Secondary Teacher of the Year.  


Today she continues to love her work and promote the love of learning to the Progreso community.
