Omar Mata-EC Chemistry & Physics

Mr. Omar Mata has been teaching at Progreso High School for 14 years. Mr. Mata has taught Biology, Integrated Physics and Chemistry, Chemistry and Physics. He currently teaches Chemistry and Physics for PECHS and is unreservedly enjoying working with such a motivated and talented set of young individuals. His passion for teaching comes from a love of working with inquiring minds and he has made it his personal goal to quench any and every thirst for knowledge. No doubt the fact that Mr. Mata is surrounded by a family of teachers—mother, wife and brother—has helped shape the exceptional educator he is today. In his years of service, He has worked with an impressive spectrum of students and is very pleased to have been at Progreso long enough to see younger siblings of former students come through his classroom.

Mr. Mata holds a Science composite certificate as well as certificates in EC-6, 4-8 Science, Health and Gifted and Talented areas. Mr. Mata graduated from UTPA in May of 2004 with a B.S. in Science, achieving Cum Laude status. Though he considered double majoring in Anthropology, he opted to minor in the subject, as he is fascinated with the subject.

The father of two children, Mr. Mata is an avid swimmer, ice skater and recreational clay shooter. He applies the same passion and persistence in his personal life as he does in his professional life, adopting a vision that has, thus far, worked phenomenally well for him in both areas. He always strives to “ensure children are well-prepared and equipped to lead us into the future by constantly trying to better myself for both mine and their benefit.”

Mr. Mata is also our Science representative for the PECHS Leadership Team.
